The Association is a non-profit organization created to promote a standard of professionalism. It is made up of owner/operators whose facilities range from one-unit operators to multiple facility owners. There are associate members that represent vendors that serve the industry as well as those individuals who are interested in getting involved. As a united voice for the mini-storage industry, ASSA is dedicated to providing the highest level of service to promote the continued growth of the Association.
Below is a list of reasons why you should be a part of the Association:
- The primary aim of the Association is to give each owner a support system for dealing with problems such as business issues, lien law problems, public sales, property tax, and manager education.
- Promote sound legislative proposals affecting our industry
- Preserve high standards of conduct in ourselves and in the self-storage industry
- The purpose of the Association is to provide a powerful network of information to help any member and anyone who wishes to enter the self-storage industry.
- Developed a Code of Ethics to enable members to enhance business practices and customer service
- Periodic Member Alerts reports. These reports alert owners to specific problems or issues facing the industry.
- Membership certificate for your office or facility that indicates participation in the Association.
- Copies of the Arkansas lien law and building codes for self-storage facilities.
- The staff of the Association is always available to supply members with research/referral information for specific problems or to put you in contact with Association Directors, or others, considered experts in your area of concern.
- Legal advice and interpretation of the law is available from the legal counsel along with guidance in conducting business within the law.
- Regional seminars throughout the state
- Our hope is that by offering our members a model for creating a current and reliable lease we will be able to give Arkansas operators, a degree of protection from unnecessary legal disputes.

Also, frequent networking and idea-sharing opportunities are a great benefit to the owners and mangers to expand upon ideas and get acquainted with fellow self-storage facilities.
Being a member of the Arkansas Self Storage Association will give you an outlet for asking questions involving self storage issues. The ASSA staff will be able to answer most of your questions and refer members to the appropriate resources. (For example legal issues, lien laws, contracts, etc…)

We have recently had an attorney with the national association review our sample lease and bring it up to date. As a member, you can download this lease from our website.
